Scottish Labour endorses smoking ban

Scottish Labour Health Spokesperson Jackie Baillie celebrates five years of the smoking ban. A beautifully balanced piece from the STV, closely resembling Scottish Labour's announcement of the smoking ban's fifth anniversary.

Freedom to Choose (Scotland) asked Scottish Labour back in December 2010 to explain its current position regarding smoking bans in psychiatric units. Ms Baillie clearly hasn't found it easy (in spite of regular promises) to provide a proper response.

This is the text of an e-mail received from Jackie Baillie on 28 February 2011.
"Dear Eddie

As I said in my previous email, I will be providing you with a substantive response to the points you raise. Richard Simpson is the Shadow Public Health Minister and I am the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health. He and I have discussed the matter and I will be responding to you shortly.

Best wishes

Jackie"

I replied as follows on 10 March 2011.

"Dear Jackie,
Can you please confirm that a reply to the points raised in my various e-mails will be forthcoming before you cease to be the Shadow Health Secretary when the Scottish Parliament is dissolved prior to the 2011 election.

Yours sincerely

Eddie"

I then sent a further e-mail as follows on 16 March 2011.

" Dear Jackie,

The dissolution of the Scottish Parliament prior to the Scottish Election is now less than one week away and I have yet to receive a reply to my various e-mails, nor a response to my last e-mail requesting confirmation that a reply would be forthcoming.

As a taxpayer and voter I am not impressed at the time it is taking for you and your fellow MSPs to consider the points I have raised and reply.

Yours sincerely

Eddie Douthwaite"

NO REPLY WAS EVER RECEIVED.

I HOPE THE VOTERS IN THE WEST COAST READ THIS.

Probably too busy stuffing her face Eddie. How on earth can any rational person accept health advice from the clinically obese?

The way I see it, immeasurable improvement = none (at best).

Tell you what, if everyone aspired to Baillie as a role model the NHS would collapse. Literally.

My God, she is so fat !!!
I resent my tobacco tax being spent treating the clinically obese.
This tub of lard needs to seriously diet and seek help for her obvious food addiction.

Jacke Baillie casts a big shadow...an enormous shadow in fact. Will she tip the scales in Labour's favour

It is obvious that Jackie Baillie and her Labour cohorts are unable or unwilling to answer my questions without the backup of the Tobacco Control Division which they had when they were last in power prior to May 2007.

Scottish Labour are reportedly having a manifesto "commitment" (read that as you will), to banning smoking in cars with children in them.

I can't verify this as I rip all the pamphlets in half and they go in the paper recycling bin - ie the the fucking bucket.

Jackie Baillie was crowing about how proud she was that the smoking ban had been adhered to by us drones just last week, on its 5th anniversary.

Well if it was that popular, how come it wasn't in your party's manifesto, and a sham "consultation" took place, then railroaded through by Andy Kerr and Jack Mc-Con-all for their piss-poor political obituaries?

If it was so "popular", how come we had to have draconian fines for smokers and licensees if you dare light up?

Surely if it was such a "popular" reform us smokers would just stand outside anyway?

And Jackie what are you gonna do when they ban all the fucking pies from Gregg's?

Fuck you!
